Salem District Cricket Association was born on the 13 th October 1957 . Former Member of Parliament Shri R T Parthasarathy was the founder of the association. Shri R T Parthasarathy is called the “Father of District Cricket”. Shri J R Mehta was the charter President of the association. Shri R V Chockalingam and Shri Kasturi Pillai were the Charter Vice Presidents with Shri R T Parthasarathy as the charter secretary. Shri R T Parthasarathy and Shri Ramadurai were the pillars of Salem District Cricket Association and they were the key people for laying a strong foundation for this glorious association which is in its fiftieth year of cricketing. “Determination”, “Dedication” and “Discipline” are the three things which has brought laurels to this association.

The association has seen Determined and Dedicated presidents in R V Chockalingam, R T Parthasarathy, K Sivaramakrishnan, Dr. S Balakrishnan, UKG Nayak, P Arumugam, R Subramaniam and Dr. Ravindra Boopathi in its exemplary fifty years of cricketing service.

Salem has the credit of being the FIRST ever DISTRICT CENTRE to host Ranji Trophy by hosting the Ranji Trophy match between Madras and Hyderabad at Little Flower HSS grounds in the year 1956.

SDCA has the privilege of conducting many National, State and District level cricket matches. SDCA has hosted Madras City against District Matches in many occasions. SDCA has hosted RANJI TROPHY match between Madras Vs Kerala ; and Madras Vs Andra; in many occasions.

MJ Gopalan Memorial trophy which is an annual tournament played between SRI LANKA and TAMIL NADU was also hosted by SDCA at Salem .

SDCA conducted an exhibition match in Salem were All Indian star cricketers including Kapil Dev, Gavaskar, G R Vishwanath, Syed Kirmani, Vekatraghavan, Srikanth and many others participated.

SDCA as a part of its campaign to produce cricket prodigies has conducted many coaching camps. A F Wensley from England , Former National Cricketer A G Ram Singh, and Former State Cricketers M J Kannan, S A Narayanan and S J Venkatesan had taken up role of coaches in several camps to guide and produce many cricketers from the Salem District.

S A Narayanan was specialist in producing technically sound cricketers by his unique and dedicated coaching methodologies laying special emphasis to discipline in the game of cricket. His contribution to the cricketing world is remarkable. CD GOPINATH of Salem represented Indian National Cricket Team and was once the Chairman of the All India Selection Committee.
